Student Services
Individual Counseling:
The school counselor meets with students individually for short-term (1 to 3 sessions), solution-focused counseling to address immediate concerns due to changes in academic performance, attendance, and/or behavior. Services are provided on a limited basis and, if issues are unresolved, lead to referrals to outside resources for long-term counseling. If you believe your child needs long-term individual counseling, please visit the resources page to learn more about agencies and organizations that can help.
Small Group Counseling:
The school counselor provides small group counseling for students showing a need for additional support in the areas of academics, attendance, and/or behavior. Participants are identified through data indicators including behavior report card grades, attendance rate, discipline referrals and suspensions, etc.
Small groups are comprised of 4 to 8 students working to improve in the same area of need and last between 6 to 8 weeks. Sessions happen once a week for about 30 minutes and are held during special area time (rotated so the same special area is not missed every time) or lunch. Parents/guardians of students identified to participate in small group counseling will receive an invitation letter and consent form that must be completed and returned in order for the student to be part of the group.
Classroom Lessons:
The school counselor presents classroom lessons for all students on a variety of topics.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
If you schedule a parent/teacher conference with your child's teacher and would also like the school counselor to be present, please let your child's teacher know at the time you schedule the conference.
